TBS Caipirinha - new airframe - quick review

Postby icebear » Sat May 11, 2013 5:41 pm

Hi,

Tom pointed out that TBS had a new platform for FPV out - the Caipirinha. Since I just got the GoPro Hero 3, I decided to check it out (AND I like the drink too :)).

SPECS:

34in / 85cm wingspan!
22oz / 620g AUW (including GoPro2 and battery)
35min flying time and 10km range according to TBS with 2S-3300 pack and 2000 kV motor

After only a few days in transit from Singapore(!) it arrived in good shape yesterday.

I was quite suprised to see that the Caipirinha was now all black with nice yellow ailerons already covered from factory. The kit also includes two cf tubes and three cf rods to stiffen up the wing. The foam is very smooth and a little glossy.

The hardware is complete with GoPro box and everything cut out for battery, rx, video tx, FPV cam, GorPro, cf rods etc etc. The kit even has pre-molded gap fillers in case you don't intend to use an FOV cam or GoPro or video Tx - neat. The only thing missing was a manual...!

Everything went together quickly - in fact a bit too quickly since I glued the GoPro ply box together reversed... :o

I haven't installled the GP2 yet but everything ready for maiden. Now I just have to figure out the best CG spot without a manual...

Cheers,

Björn

Great! Can't wait to see it in the air!

It looks very small, do you think you're going to have enough room?

Me too... However we've had a week of hot BUT very windy weather so I didnt have a chance to test it...

Unfortunately the Caipirinha is VERY tail heavy - it wont even balance with a GoPro3 AND a 2S2500 pack up front....

It is not that small. About the same size as a normal 900 mm wing like the Swift (which I didnt think flew well so I sold it).

Right now the TechOne Popwing has been the best wing in that size so I might go back to that wing in case the TBS wing doesnt work out.

Hi Tom!

Ooops! Missed your post but NO I didnt get it to fly very well on manual (hard to get a good CG with battery and camera) so I sold to a friend in the club...

I went with the smaller C_Ray instead ! :)

Sure did! That was last year's accomplishment :) A very small UAV with a stripped Mobius HD cam
and GP2 of course... 150 grams total weight.
It flies very solid and today was actually the first flight of this year...the season has started!

See pics below.

Cheers,
BJörn
