Regarding Direction Finding

Postby Kang.K.P.S. » Sat Dec 17, 2011 6:53 am

Hi, I'm new here and want to know how does the gluon pilot manage to find directional co-ordinates without the compass chip. Does it do something like UDB by reading GPS headings? If so how ong it exactly takes to get a directional lock.
Regards,
Kang.

Hi Kang,

Yes just like UDB and most other autopilot systems, the gluonpilot gets it's heading from the GPS. What you need is a GPS lock and a minimum velocity (about 2-3km/h).

Tom,
How long it actually takes to find the direction from the initialization of flight.

As soon as you have a GPS lock, the GPS also sends a heading to the gluonpilot. This heading is only reliable when there is a certain velocity. Gluonpilot sets the heading to the take-off heading (for the CLIMB command) as soon as it reaches 3m/s.
