Can not burn configuration to Gluon v0.1J

Postby peters » Fri Apr 01, 2011 10:57 pm

Hi Tom,

Since last post, I was able to download 0.51 firmware to the board. However, I still can not completely configure the board even though I push the burn button many times. After the reboot, gluon v0.1J will go back to the place it was everytime like it was no configuration.

I still also can not use PWM input on the board. So I am using PPM encoder and switch to 72MHz radio and it appears that gluon module receives PPM okay. However, after many tries, I still can not burn "roll", "pitch", "yaw" for gluon to remember these settings.

So I think the problem should be that I couldn't burn the settings to the board. This could probably fix the PWM problem as well. I guess.

Best,

Peter

Hello Peter,

When power on the module, do the messages clearly show that the version on the gluonpilot module is v0.5.1?

Hi Tom,

Here it is:

[04:15:25.98] Reboot command received...
[04:15:27.00] Gluonpilot v0.5.1 [Apr 2 2011 04:35:20, config: 266B, logline: 56B, navigation: 504B, double: 4B]

Now both LED1&LED2 are blinking, but I can't get gluonconfig to show GPS lock or R/C input.

Thanks,

Peter

In the "telemetry tab", click on the first button to enable telemetry.

Does this help?

Hi Tom,

I press the button to set for FTDI connection in Telemetry tab. Now I download 0.5.2 firmware to the gluonpilot 0.1J as follows:

From Gluonconfig, if I don't press Load Default, everything would stop (no sensor data, no GPS info, no R/C input). But when I press Load Default, then I can see that GPS is locked, I see sensor data moving. But R/C input does not work. I test already that radio/receiver works as I put a servo in a spare channel. Hello Peter,

The correct way to go is:

Startup
-> Load default
-> Burn
-> Reboot
-> Wait until boot is finished
-> "Set for configuration" button
-> Burn
-> Configure what you want to configure
-> Write
-> Burn

Hi Tom,

I tried your suggestion for about 10 times. It doesn't work still. I notice this in some tries:
12:42:37.57] A Brown-out Reset has occurred
[12:42:37.59] Found hardware version v0.1j or earlier
[12:42:37.62] 2 MB flash found
[12:42:37.64] Loading configuration...done

The thing is that I power the board with FTDI cable. So probably it's not enough. Can I plug in 5V to the 5V input while I use FTDI board connecting the computer? I'm using 0.1J at the moment. I hope to get 0.1N for testing asap.

Sometimes PPM Encoder board is not powered up from Gluonpilot. Sometimes it does. I only test R/C input when I see PPM encoder board is powered up. And I use multimeter to check voltage on the out-going servo side, it's 0V.

Now I still have problem with R/C input, GPS lock to get it right everytime. I attach you my latest configuration. Even though I burn the config already, then I detach FTDI cable then attach again (power cycle gluon), then it would go to PWM mode (where I see only one input with changing numbers). So I have to press Load Default before I can see inputs (PPM). Is it possible to go in to configuration file directly on the gluonpilot?

Best,

Peter

Hello Peter,

I see you are working with a development version of the firmware. Maybe it is better if you try with version 0.5.2. Could you change your firmware (not it can easily be done using gluonconfig).

Brown out reset if because the voltage drops too low: Make sure no servos are connected so the gluon module if you are using a laptop (USB power from a laptop is not much). If none are, then you better use an external 5V source. If you use an external 5V source, then you will need to (or would better) remove the red wire from the FTDI connector.

The config file you sent contained mostly empty data. Don't forget to do a "Read" to get the latest data. After a "Load default", don't forget to do a "Burn"!

Regards,

Tom

Hello Tom,

I tried to upgrade to 5.2 using Gluonconfig but it shows an error. Is Gluonconfig going to download firmware through FTDI cable? If this is right, then it shows an error message. Could you please send me a command line that I can use ds30loaderconsole to upgrade firmware 5.2 hex file directly?

As for configuration problem, I would like to attach a new configuration file that I saved (write-burn to gluonpilot) -- 0404110401.gcf. Then I power cycle the gluonpilot board. And I restart gluonconfig to read/reload the configuration, then I save the reloaded configuration again -- 0404110402.gcf -- after power cycle, all configuration was lost.

I think I broke SCP1000 just now. It used to show data but now it's not. Should I try to reconnect its connections by using fine solder iron?

Best regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,

To upgrade the gluonpilot using gluonconfig:
- Open gluonconfig
- Connect to the gluon module
- Wait until the module has booted
- Click on the firmware upgrade button
- Choose the firmware

Normally this should work... If it's not working: do you have access to an ICD2 of Pickit programmer?

Do you use the latest gluonconfig version?
