GPS Signal out to an OSD

Postby magellan » Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:04 am

Good morning Tom.
I hope you had a nice Christmas and enjoyed some time off.
Best wishes for 2012 and many successful flight with Gluonpilot!

Question for you: I have a Gluonpilot board with the GPS that came with it and Xbee transmitter (900MHz)
I have a Remzibi OSD lying around and I am wondering how I can get the GPS signal out to the OSD.
Since the GPS is plugged into the board, the TX and RX are already busy.
Do you have an idea how I can patch the TX and RX out to my OSD. My OSD requires 38400 baud like GluonPilot so the speed is compatible I think?

Thanks!

Hi,

Internally at startup, the gluonpilot reconfigures the GPS to 115200 baud. You could disable this in the firmware... in this situation it would be sufficient to wire the "RX" pin to your OSD.

Firmware line 114 and 116 should be commented out:

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the information, I will try this. Do you think running the GPS at 38400 will affect performance of the Gluonpilot?

Hi Tom,

I just found out the Remzibi OSD will work with 115200 Baud! I guess I will not need to modify lines 114 and 116 then. Simply run a jumper from GPS TX out to OSD. I will give this a try soon.
I still want to buy your extension board, it will be easier with less wires everywhere!
I have gluonpilot v1.0n, I think I can adapt it somehow yes?

Well the current extension board would partly fit: in hardware version "o", the VBAT connector is now together with the 5V connector:

These won't fit. So you would need to connect a wire to have the battery voltage. All the other things will work.
